Tabuk city RT-PCR laboratory awaits license to operate

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Once operational with the Department of Health (DOH) approval of its license to operate, the establishment of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) Laboratory in this city would be significant in reducing the waiting time of swab results. This would provide health officials to act more efficiently and timely when positive cases are reported.

City Health Officer, Dr. Henrietta Bagayao said the laboratory facility with its most important equipment is already in place except for some computers, printers, and minifuge which will be delivered soon. She said that once the equipment was completed, the laboratory would be ready for inspection.
Today, April 6, 2021, the City Health Office (CHO) submitted to the Department of Health (DOH) a walk-thru video for the establishment of the RT-PCR laboratory supporting the request for a license to operate.

“Ada metten dijay approved floor plan, ada metten jay Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) resolution duly signed by the vice mayor nga in-aprubaran ni mayor, pictures, and finally jay walk-thru video plus application,” she said.

She said that they are just waiting for the inspection team from the Central Office to schedule the inspection of the laboratory and the equipment prior the issuance of its license to operate.

“Our Med-Techs already had their safety training at Baguio City, iti ur-urayen da lang ket jay schedule ti hands on training ti RT-PCR,” she said expressing hope that inspection will be done soon for the laboratory to officially start.

City Mayor Darwin Estrañero during the lab inspection also hoped for immediate approval, he then advised the CHO to facilitate the application process.

“I hope a ma-facilitate da jay approval ti license to operate tapnu we can operate so that we can address the problem na daytuy non-acceptence dagituy swab samples nga ipad-padala tayu, gapu ta over-whelmed dan. At the same time, maamuan tayu results ti samples with-in the day,” he said.

The mayor also said that the construction and arrival of the equipment took some time because all the materials are imported from abroad and that there had been problems in the delivery because of the pandemic.

“The delay for the importation is already beyond our control, that is why we were not able to meet the deadline. Nonetheless, we are hoping that we will be able to operate the RT-PCR laboratory soon,” he said.

He then said that the laboratory is also another big development for the city as Baguio City, as well as other provinces that have RT-PRC laboratories are already overwhelmed.

“Pumardas a maamuwan tayu [iti] result. If we do that, maplano a talaga nu inya pangi-apanan dagituy patients tayu that will turn out positive,” the mayor said.
